Timeline of The Generation Gap
Following is a timeline used in my campaign called The Generation
Gap. The campaign takes place in 2026/27 and is meant to be a bridge
into the Cybergeneration paradigm. I have been setting this campaign up
with previous campaigns for some time, with events occuring that would
set the stage for the current state of affairs. I've been giving it to
the players a little bit at a time since 1994 (then 2024 in the campaign,
I like to have my timeline exactly 30 years in the future). The ultimate
outcome of the current campaign will likely be the overthrow of the
government or at least a return to the values of 2020. We'll see.
2020
Nov. Gerald Hastings of the Corporate Party elected President. David
Windham is appointed as Vice President.
2022
Third Corporate War. Gerald Hastings assassinated, David Windham sworn
in as new president.
2024
Jan. Dmitri Roshenko, a SovOil covert operative,
contracts Carbon Plague Virus while on a black op against Petrochem. His
mission was to download secret plans for a fuel-efficient Spinner
prototype to use to bargain with Petrochem. He unwittingly stumbles
across a Petrochem biowarfare production facility during his escape and
contracts their newest top secret agent being produced for the Secret
Service (hmmm...). His transport explodes in mid-air over Puget Sound on
his way back to Vladivostok. He washes ashore with amnesia and tries to
re-establish his life by becoming a security guard. He is reported dead
by an SovOil investigative team.
Nov. David Windham re-elected
Presindent promising sweeping governmental reforms. Windham re-aligns the
legislative power structure, this is the beginning of the so-called
"Second American Revolution." A period of isolationism begins and a trade
war with Europe ensues.
Aug. Dmitri Roshenko is contacted by
McDonnell Douglass regarding employment. They want the information stored
in his head, but to access it, they must place his dying body in
Cryo-storage to halt the progress of his then uknown disease and make AI
copies of his mind via Soulkiller.
2025
Feb. 12. All Media declared a National Resource, the Net is
nationalized.
Dec. FoxRun 3-13 crashes in Night City with only one survivor.
2026
Jan. Renee Suzzalo, sole survivor of FoxRun dies of GMDS.
Feb. 63 people die of GMDS on West Coast.1 child survives. GMDS
declared a threat to national security.
March. 300 people die of GMDS across North America. 3 Children survive.
April. 10,000 people die of GMDS, 13 children survive, 2 children
disappears. EEC quarrantines the ISA.
May. Cases appear in Western Europe, Japan, and Central America.
June. 1 millionth reported case of GMDS. Martial Law declared in ISA.
July . Cases reported in every population center on earth. Riots rage
across many American cities. Troops supress violence within days.
Aug. X-Tal palace and Tycho Base report GMDS. Disease determined to be
nanotech based.
Sep. Orbital traffic re-opened. Organized youth-gang terrorism begins.
Emergency Powers Act passed giving the Executive Branch unprecedented
authority and power. BuReloc camps set up accross country.
Oct. The Media reports the 10 millionth case of GMDS in the I.S.A.
alone. According to the Media, half of the adult population is a
carrier of the Carbon Plague while 17-68% of juveniles carry the disease
and approximately 5% or 50 thousand children have undergone a
Biomechanical mutation. Oddly, none of the characters has ever met nor
known anyone who has died of this bizarre disease.
SovOil discovers Dmitri is still alive while "debriefing" one of their
investigations teams. They hastily assign Vladimir Vostok the case of
finding him and send him to Seattle. Petrochem agents intercept
SovOil communications regarding the matter and decide to scramble their
own team to find Dmitri before Vladimir can.
Tyrone Johnson, an ex-Private Investigator and friend of Dmitri, is hired
by Vladimir to find the missing agent for a counter-extraction before
Petrochem does. They track him down to the Allison Aeronautics factory
#8 in Indianapolis, manufactuing Spinners. Anticipating Petrochem's
actions, they proceed
with the extraction without waiting for SovOil only to find Dmitri
essentially dead.
They are able to download two copies of Dmitri's
ghost into
portable AI transfer cases and get away in a Spinner prototype. They
are pursued by Allison AV-4s. The AV-4s mysteriously explode in mid-air
(hit by secret orbital lasersats owned by the gov't) and are intercepted
by I.S.A. troops in unmarked black AV-8s. They hide one copy and
relinquish the other to the gov't operatives who were masquerading as
Petrochem Water Leapords. They are then let free (mysteriously).
