Mam'bo Mayana LafayetteVodun Priestess![]() Mayana Lafayette is not a typical Vodun Mam'bo (Priestess). She is young, attractive, college educated, sophisticated, and successful. She lives in a two-story apartment in downtown New Orleans where she lives alone. She was born in America in 1972 after her mother immigrated from Haiti. Her mother died in 1980, leaving Mayana to be raised by the state. She has no living relatives in America and the identity and location of her father is unknown. Mayana maintains a congregation of devotees in the New Orleans area. She owns a large hounfort (ritual gathering place) in the bayou and a clean and well-managed shop in town. Her shop is located on the Riverwalk and looks more like a Museum Company than a vodun supply shop. She has two hounsis (assistants), Freddie Prince and Nala Cevalier, who also work in the shop and maintain her appointments. True to form, her hounsis are also young and college educated, not much younger than Mayana herself. Mayana works on retainer for several large New Orleans firms as a "consultant". She also works on contract for smaller groups or individuals. She easily moves from the skyscraper world of lawyers and corporations to the shacks and shanties of rural Louisiana. One day, she'll attend a power-luncheon in the Hilton, the next day she'll be the guest of honor at a Cat-fish fry in the Bayou. AUTHORIZED DELTA GREEN CELL-LEADERS ONLY Her dark secret, however, is that she is a bokor (black magician). She is the center of her own Cochon Gris (secret society). As such, she consults and controls evil spirits, Loup Garou (animal spirits), and Tonton Macoute (bogeymen). She also practices zombification, cannibalism, and human sacrifice. She has several angajans (pacts) with Petro Loa (evil gods) and can be a dangerous opponent if crossed. She keeps her affiliation with the Cochon Gris a very deep secret, even from other members. All Bokor in a Cochon Gris wear red and white cloaks that mask their faces to hide their identities. If her secret were to get out, she would be denounced by the legitimate Vodun community. Keepers could use Mayana in several ways. She can be a valuable source of metaphyical information, a powerful ally (of sorts), or a formidable opponent. Start her out slowly, just an introduction. Have clues point to her but then have them move on. Mayana is genial, but calculating. Her pleasantness is meant to lull you into a false sense of security. After she has your confidence, she'll be able to use you anyway she likes. For more information on Vodun, please see the Vodun Information Pages at http://www.arcana.com/voodoo/voodoo.html.
