"D." MacGrady is a sour embittered man with a grudge against all Cyberdroids. He was raised in a middle class family in Portland. His lover, Lisa Hayes, vanished mysteriously when he was a teenager. His next girlfriend, Mitoko Kusanagi, disappeared just as mysteriously only two years later. A subsequent police investigation targeted him, but it was discovered that his friend, Terrence Bonnicker, had them murdered.

Terrence was always jealous of his happiness so he illegally purchased a combat boomer to kill them. Terrence was imprisoned and MacGrady was given part of the wrongful death settlement from the victims' parents in their appreciation for MacGrady's help in finding and apprehending Bonnicker. D. used his reward to open a garage with his partner, Geoff Lundt.

Ufortunately, Geoff embezzeled D. and made off with several hundred thousand yen. D. had thought all was lost and was ready to close up shop when he was approached by Alisa Thomas, founder of the Dragon Knights. Her investment and partnership renewed MacGrady's business and MacGrady, himself, has become an important and useful member of the Dragon Knights as a tech, an inventor, a weapons procurer, and skilled combatant.
