Dr. Henry MacGrady

Outlaw Scientist

Dr. Henry MacGrady is the father of D. MacGrady. He is a well-known and respected geologist who received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in Seattle in 2010. He has always been a maverick scientist who received to bow to convention or the manipulation of corporate sponsors. Because of this, he has always found difficulty getting funding. In fact, his findings often put him at odds with various corporations, so they often try to disrupt his experiments or invalidate his findings.

His research is therefore usually underground and kept secret. Dr. MacGrady's latest project has put him at odds with Genom. He has come across evidence of cutting edge seismological testing being done in remote Genom research facilities in the Cascades. To find out exactly what they were up to, he was determined to duplicate their experiments, cryptically called "Option 2" in pirated Genom computer files. His findings confirmed his and many other scientists' suspicions: that Genom either knew about or was responsible for the Second Great Kanto Earthquake and were making preperations for another such earthqueake in the Pacific Northwest. The Cascade research facilities were successful in enhancing small earthquakes, but a much larger energy source would be necessary for one on the scale of the Kanto earthquake. Since there was no such energy delivery method known short of an atomic bomb, another Kanto-sized earthquake is highly unlikely.

Regardless of his conclusions, Genom found about his secret lab and refugee shelter in the newly-reclaimed forests of the Cascades and directed a demolition crew to destroy it. MacGrady and his colleagues were trapped. The roads leading into and out of the remote shelter had been previously demolished in Genom's "Biodiversity Reclamation Project" implemented by Toy Tanaka. Dr. MacGrady managed to get an assistant out to solicit help from his son. The assistant was intercepted by a combat boomer before reaching MacGrady's Automotive Shop in May 2033. The combat boomer was subsequently destroyed by the Dragon Knights and D. eventually received the message. D. took the Dragon Knights and their trailer truck down the demolished roads of restricted Genom-owned forests to rescue his father.

After fighting off a vanguard of combat boomers and the devouring demolition boomers, the refugees and scientists were saved.

Dr. MacGrady needed to get to Seattle to collaborate with his colleague, Dr. Mitchell, on his findings. D., Toshi, and Meg accompanied him on the MagLev. The MagLev was commandeered by boomer-rights terrorists on a suicide mission. Dr. MacGrady was taken hostage. It was discovered that the terrorists were actually being used by Genom agents to kidnap Dr. MacGrady and blame it on the terrorists. The terrorists were overcome and the agents defeated atop the speeding train by Toshi, Meg, and D. Dr. MacGrady finally made it to his meeting with his colleague and has since returned into hiding. His current whereabouts and activities are unknown. It is assumed that his research continues.
