In the past decades, the increase of the Asian influence in the Pacific NW has led to
an increased presence of Asian organized crime in the form of the Japanese Yakuza and the
Chinese Tongs. There is a small representation from the urban street-gangs of Southern
California. There is virtually no presence of the Italian Mafia, the French Union Corse,
or any other of the European criminal gangs. Many of the Yakuza and Tongs are
undergoing the same growing pains that the Italian Mafia underwent a century ago on the
East Coast. A new generation of rebellious young gangsters are vying for power from the
old-school leaders from Asia. This younger generation shows less respect for the old ways
and are moving away from traditional activities such as gambling, prostitution, and
extortion and are opening markets for corporate assassination, espionage, tech smuggling,
and computer crime.
Occassional turf wars occur but tend to be resolved quickly to avoid police
involvement. Illegal combat Boomers are sometimes procured to act as thugs for the gangs.
They show no remorse and are uncorruptable.
Currently the most powerful gang boss is the Chinese Tong leader Xin Xiang, one of the
new generation of punk cyber-criminals.
CAMPAIGN UPDATE: Xin Xiang has been
killed by the Dragon Knights. Many of the experimental high-tech parts used by the Dragon
Knights were procured by young Taylor Thomas and his with the Triad. These contacts ratted
Taylor out to Xin who wanted to know where these parts were being used. He kidnapped
Taylor Thomas to use as bait for a trap. Unfortunately, the trap backfired as Alisa, Meg,
and Rick Kulland snuck into the back of the warehouse as Toshi in the Cyclops/Cyclone
attacked the front. The situations evolved into a face-off between Kulland and Alisa vs.
Xin using Taylor as a shield. Xin, momentarily distracted by Alisa, was abruptly shot in
the head by Rick, seconds before potentially revealing the secret association between
Alisa and the Dragon Knights to Rick.
The event was covered up by Rick and Yuri, and the long-term results of the
power-vaccuum in the Mafia heirarchy is yet to be seen. |
