Genom NW

Genom NW is located in Mega-Portland. They manufacture Boomers. 90% of the Boomers manufactured do manual or menial labor (displacing human labor, which isn't as reliable and must be paid) and generally never have any problems. Those that do are easily dealt with by either the local N-Police or the 3CD. Occassionaly, a more powerful combat boomer escapes into society to cause mass carnage. These generally fall into the jurisdiction of the AD Police. The regional director of Genom is Toy Tanaka, a ruthless ecofascist from Japan with an overdeveloped sense of honor and the environment.

Genom is currently the largest land-owning entity in the Pacific Northwest. After the mass exodus of the rural in the early part of the century, Genom purchased much of the abandoned land at cut-rate prices. Much of this land has been allowed to revert to nature, with many towns and buildings being demolished by Genom's army of Construction Boomers. This effort continues to this day, with entire cities now lying abandoned and empty, save for the few desperate squatters that couldn't afford to move to the city to find work.

BMDL Aerospace

BMDL is the largest aerospace consortium in the world, comprised of former giants Boeing, McDonnell, Douglass, and Lockheed. BMDL is headquartered in Seattle and produces Shuttles, OTV's, Aircraft, Sub-Orbital Scramjets, and military aircaft. BMDL occupies a vast area of factories and offices south of Seattle.

Other Industries Important to Cascadia Include:

High Tech - Several large corporations make use of the relatively clean water resources of the area to manufacture Boomer brains, components, computer chips, integrated circuits, and other related technologies. Tertiary industries include software, content, and service.

Aluminum - The abundant water resources have historically lended itself to the smelting of aluminum shipped downriver in barges from mines to the east.

Timber - The timber industry of the Pacific NW in 2033 is dead. What forestland that remains is protected by the CMA. There are stands of cheap tree-farm timber available for harvest, but nowhere near the level of before the turn of the century. The continuing existence and recovery of the Northwest wilderness is one of the few triumphs of the CMA.

Shipping - Vancouver, Seattle, and Portland are all major centers of shipping and trade with links all across the Pacific Rim, Asia, Australia, North America, and South America. Portland also services the inland Pacific Northwest via the Columbia River.

Ship Building - Seattle is a major ship-building area that constructs and services huge ocean-going ships from man-made islands in Elliot Bay.  Portland is a major ship-builder of smaller ships and river-going vessels on the Columbia River.
