Welcome to the Rangers.

Each of you are now the representative of Law Enforcement responsible for, per capita, over 500 cubic light years of space. You will might work alone or in groups. You will spend months at a time away from home. You must be independent and interdependent at the same time. Some of you come from the industrialized and civilized Core Worlds, others come from the Rim Worlds that were the first to be colonized, others probably come from the Frontier colonies and know what to expect out there. That's great, but you're Rangers now and all that means bullshit.

As Rangers, you are your own commanding officer. All Rangers are equal. Your job, simply, is to uphold the law on the Frontier, a region of space spanning 150 million cubic light years. That means there are, on average, 300,000 Rangers out there with you at any given time. Each Ranger is your Brother, your Sister, your only friends in an uncaring galaxy. If you need them, you can call for their help. Likewise, if you fail them, they will be the first ones to kick your sorry ass. Rangers police themselves and, failing that, the Federation Military has authorization to deal with renegades.

The Frontier is a dangerous place. Last year, the Rangers suffered a 34% turnover, either through death, injury, retirement, or disappearance. Out there you'll find bandits, planetary warlords, pirates, incusions by Imperial forces, and even hostile aliens. They don't like the law and they won't like you. Some of you may be wondering how you were ever allowed to become a Ranger. Frankly, it's because we're desperate. The Law must be enforced, and we need people to do it. You've all been through your training, and you've all been told what is expected of you and what the consequences of failure are. That's enough for us.

But like I said, you've got friends, you're not alone. First of all there is Ranger Support: us. We supply and equip the Rangers, keep track of them, and handle communications and deployment. We're the ones who determine who goes where and what needs to be done, then we make sure you're able to do it. There are Ranger Support stations on nearly every colonized planet on the Frontier. We're also the ones who determine if a Ranger is a renegade or not, so don't piss us off. Secondly, there are the other Rangers. If you ever need help, we can have Rangers at your position in a matter of hours. Each Ranger is expected to be able to lay down their life in the support and protection of another Ranger. Nothing less will be expected of you as well. Just remember, Ranger deployment isn't unlimited, and it may take days to get together more than 10 Rangers, and getting more than 200 Rangers at any given time is unlikely. Space is just too big and there's just so much to do.

You'll be equipped with the latest technology and gear. You'll get a new long-range Space Fighter. It'll be yours, treat it well and it'll treat you well. You'll get an allowance to modify your fighter to meet your specificiations. You'll get a uniform, a side-arm, a flight-suit, and some other basic equipment. On top of that, you'll be given an equipment allowance to outfit yourself to your own needs. Ranger Support Stations have large armories at their disposal, but they're not unlimited. If you need a powersuit, requisition it. If you need a bigger ship for a short mission, requisition it. If you need heavy armor, requisition it. We do offer loans on your equipment allowance for the big items, but failure to pay will result in garnishing of your wages.

Now grab your datapads, check your assignments and requisition your equipment. You'll be patrolling Deep Space by the end of the day. Good Luck!
