City of Arcol
The City of Arcol is nestled between the defensive cliffs overlooking the Great Falls of the Arcol River where it feeds into the Bay of Orb. The city itself is housed almost entirely within giant transparisteel-enclosed arcologies (thus the name, Arcol). Like a giant armored greenhouse, arcologies provide a completely enclosed controlled environment, protecting the city's inhabitants from the elements, including Algol's increasingly harsh winters. Much of the city is also built underground using tunnels dug into the rock face of the cliffs. Light is collected in great collectors on the glassy surface of the arcology and transmitted via fiber-optics into the subterranean interior, providing sunlight and warmth. The twin halves of the city are connected by great transparisteel-enclosed skybridges.
Power is provided by huge hydroelectric plants under the Great Falls, though backup power is provided by Nucleonic Power Reactors in the Defense Complex and the Lord's Palace.
Arcol can be reached by Fancarrier through its port facilities at the base of the arcology. Two High-Roads also connect to Arcol. The Arcadian High-Road travels overland and connects to Arcadia to the Northeast and the Arcol-Loriel Bridge crosses the Gulf of Loriel to the city of Loriel to the North.
