What is Fuzion?

Fuzion is a Role-Playing Game system developed as a joint-project between HERO Games and R.Talsorian Games.

What is a Role-Playing Game?
A Role-Playing Game, or RPG, is a type of game where several people gather to tell a story through characters of their own creation. Rules regulate who gets their way whenever conflict in the story arises. For instance, when you were a child and played "Cowboys and Indians", if you shot the bad guy, but the bad guy says you missed, who's right? RPG rules help determine if the bad guy was shot or not. Different Role-Playing Games use different rules systems for resolving conflicts. Fuzion is the name of one of those systems. Please refer to "What is a Role-Playing Game" by Guy W. McLimore for more information.

What's Fuzion about?
Fuzion is the child of two parent systems: Interlock by R. Talsorian Games, and the HERO System by HERO Games. The rules themselves are about 75% Interlock, 20% HERO, and 5% Brand New. For gamers familiar with Interlock, there won't be many suprises and they should feel right at home. For gamers familiar with HERO, the change is more pronounced and might require some getting used to. Please refer to the Fuzion FAQ for more information.

What makes Fuzion so hot?
The key thing that sets Fuzion apart from any other set of RPG rules is its built-in scalability and customizability. Fuzion can be played at it's simplest using Instant Fuzion with no plug-ins, or it could be made more complex by expanding the rules using Total Fuzion and various Plug-Ins. Plug-Ins are self-contained sets of optional rules that add greater detail to the standard Fuzion rules. Examples of Plug-Ins include Martial Arts rules, Giant Robot creation and combat rules, Super Vehicle creation and combat rules, Superhero creation and combat rules, Magic rules, Bionics rules, and many more. Gamemasters are allowed to use just the plug-ins they want for their setting. Since there are several competing Plug-Ins, Gamemasters have the option of which Plug-In they wish to use; and the competetion makes for better Plug-Ins in the long run. Fuzion also has built-in customizability in the form of switches and dials. Rules options can be set to achieve just the right feel for the setting, from harsh realism to cinematic exaggeration.

What's the difference between Instant Fuzion and Total Fuzion?
Instant Fuzion is a set of simple rules that are easy to learn and play. It is a "compact" version of Total Fuzion, and is ideal for games in which complex rules aren't important and the focus is on getting started and resolving differences as quickly as possible.

Total Fuzion expands upon Instant Fuzion with more detailed rules, providing many more options and in-depth explanations. It is ideal for games that require more subtlety and detail.

What's Basic Fuzion?
Basic Fuzion is not an Official Fuzion rules package. It was created by me, Christian Conkle, as a compact version of the Total Fuzion rules. It contains all the same options and rules as Total Fuzion, but compressed by eliminating examples and dials and switches. It is Total Fuzion in it's most skeletal form. Any setting and Plug-In can be used with the Basic Fuzion rules, but Total Fuzion will provide much more scalability and customization.

How does TranzFuzion figure into all this?
TranzFuzion is a Website that attempts to provide all the rules and plug-ins I have created for Fuzion in a central location. Also included are links to all known Fuzion Websites and all known Fuzion Plug-Ins available on the Web. This is not a "one-stop shopping" site for Fuzion, but it is intended to get you to anywhere you want to go if it's Fuzion related.
