Using R. Talsorian Games’ "The Edge of the Sword (Vol. 1)" with FUZION
by Phil Hall
R. Talsorian games has produced an excellent compendium of modern firearms that works well with the Fuzion system, provided you aren’t afraid of doing a little extra work. You will have to do some math (not much, but you may want a good calculator around just in case).
The modified combat system works in this manner:
Body Points: Each character has a number of BODY POINTS equal to 62.5 times their BODY statistic. This number is used for all computation and damage calculations for this system and is used for all charts in "The Edge of the Sword" book.
Armor KD: Armor in "The Edge of the Sword" is handled differently than with Fuzion. To find the new protective value (PV) of the armor, take the SQUARE ROOT (rounded up) of the KD as listed.
How damage is determined:
The translation of the weapons’ Automatic, "(A)," or other rate of fire (ROF) to a useable Fuzion value is simple. Take the value for the automatic "(A)" value in "The Edge of the Sword" book and divide it by 10, then round that value down to the nearest multiple of 2. Any result of less than 2 becomes a 1 (for the obvious reason that a weapon’s ROF must be at least 1).
Hand-To-Hand: Hand to Hand weaponry (clubs, sword, knives, etc.) can be used in this manner as well. Simply, you need to find the Damage Value to use to multiply by the Arms, Legs, Torso, or Head locations as listed above. To do so, add together the STRENGTH of the character and the DC of the weapon used. Cross-reference that result with the following chart to find the equivalent "B" value. THIS IS EXPERIMENTAL! USE AT OWN RISK!!
STR+DC= H-t-H "B" value:
[For values not on this chart here’s the formula used: Find the log of ((DC+STR).5)]
Postscript: This system is quick, decidedly deadly, and easy. And it allows you to use the highly accurate data previously compiled that are available in "The Edge of the Sword." The problem is that you don’t have a DC (Damage Class) value generated for any of these weapons. For that I suggest you check out my comprehensive list at http://www.mecha.com/~conkle/fuzion/weapons.html which is courteously posted by Christian Conkle on his "TranzFuzion" website, which can be found by visiting him at http://www.mecha.com/~conkle/fuzion/index.html.
